As you may or may not know, Lokuno runs an initiative to support animal welfare, whereby for every bag of food sold and every box of wet food sold, R1 goes to animal welfare.
For those of you who purchase Lokuno for your pets, you may have noticed this symbol on the bag or box of food:
As a brand, Lokuno is very passionate about giving back and doing what we can to help those pets in need. Running this animal welfare initiative was therefore a natural inclusion in the brand development as “giving back” was so central to our brand values.
At regular intervals, the funds that have accumulated will be donated to various well-deserving animal welfare organisations who are very much in need of support. They may use these much-needed funds however they choose, whether for food, tick and flea treatment, Vet bills etc, it’s up to them.
Over this past month, a total of R23 000 was donated to four different animal welfare organisations around the country. Times are extra tough for us all at the moment, including these organisations, so these funds will help alleviate some of the financial burden they carry, while doing all they can to improve the health and well-being of the pets in their care.
In Cape Town:
- SA MAST Khayelitsha - in response to the recent and unfortunate incident where the organisation was robbed, Lokuno donated R2 000 and some food to assist them.
- Change for the Better Foundation - R5 000 was donated to this organization who intend to use it for urgent dental work for 10 dogs in their care; and have already booked them in at the Vet.

In Gauteng:
- Kitty and Puppy Haven - a amount of R8 000 was donated which is being used for vaccinations, de-wormers, disinfectants, gloves, syringes, tick and flea treatments etc.

In Kwazulu-Natal:
- Pietermaritzburg Animal Rescue and Rehome - a donation of R8 000 was given to this organisation, who have since used it to settle various Vet bills at four different Vets that assist them.
